Minister for Justice meets ITI and other Interpreter Representatives

On Tuesday 4 December representatives from the nine organisations of the Professional Interpreters for Justice (of which ITI is one) had a warm welcome from the Minister for Justice, Helen Grant MP and her officials Sean Palmer (Lead Senior Official and replacement to Martin Jones) and Nick Lonergan, who is looking into the service issues for court interpreting. It was a milestone meeting.

The Minister said she valued the profession and the good work of the professional membership organisations and said she wants to work positively with us. She said she wants to get it right and she’s a good listener. Professional Interpreters for Justice has been asked to write with a proposal for the establishment of working groups and this will be sent to the Justice Minister within 14 days.
