Translator/Interpreter Top Trumps - who would you include?

Who’s your top translator or interpreter of all time? Who do you think towers above the rest?

ITI is developing online packs of Translator and Interpreter Top Trumps cards and we’d like your help.

In the true spirit of this more laid-back summer period, when many of us are getting away from it all for a few days at least, this is something to mull over when you’re lazing by a pool or want a break from that holiday reading.

Tell us who you think would be worthy of featuring in a Translator or Interpreter Top Trumps pack of cards. They can be working today, from the recent past or from a distant, bygone era. Take a couple of minutes to fill in the appropriate form provided below (which is, more or less, in the style of a Top Trump card – of course!). Feel free to do more than one if you’re spoilt for choice – we’d like a good selection from across the full spectrum of translation and interpreting work.

ITI will design and launch cards based on the best suggestions in the lead up to International Translation Day on 30 September as our way of celebrating the huge contribution by translators and interpreters over the centuries and highlighting the difference that these individuals have made to so many different fields of activity.

To complete your form, you will need to score your nominee for their overall impact, inspiration value, and star quality (1 - 100) as well as provide a tiny amount of additional detail. Please do not provide more information than requested as we will not be able to accommodate this on a card.

The deadline for submitting your form (along with a picture/image of your nominee) is 30 August.

Top Trumps is a card game originally published in 1968. Each card contains a list of numerical data, and the aim of the game is to compare these values to try to trump and win an opponent's card. A wide variety of different packs of Top Trumps has been published over the years.
