In today’s rapidly changing business climate, establishing strong links with valued clients is vital to the success and longevity of a career in translation or interpreting. ‘Meet the client’ is designed for freelance translators and interpreters with all levels of expertise to develop techniques to work effectively with existing and new clients. The aim of this event is to build effective relationships. In dialogue with representatives from leading translation companies and interpreting services, you can exchange ideas and viewpoints to discover what it takes to launch or develop your business and be a top industry professional.
This event introduces speakers from Atlas Translations Ltd, the award winning Wessex Translations Ltd and Bristol City Council Translation and Interpreting Services who will discuss how to get the most from your client relationships. Our industry experts will steer you through the fine print of business guidelines and discuss the challenges facing the translation and interpreting industry. After lunch, the focus is on 'Improving Business Practice'. Judy Heminsley author of 'Work from Home' will discuss 'Work-Life Balance'. Kirsten Hemingway, MD, The Hemingway Corporation also considers 'The Added Value of Efficient Networks'.
‘Meet the client’ is expected to be a hugely popular event and should sell out fast, so book early to avoid disappointment. An effective marketing strategy can help propel your translation or interpreting business forward, ensuring you retain existing clients and attract new ones. At this inspiring one-day event, top industry experts will explain how to approach marketing and offer invaluable suggestions to develop or further enhance your key strategies.
Introduced and moderated by marketing expert, Helen Robertson (FITI, FCIM), this insightful workshop will cover a wide range of marketing topics:
Keren Lerner, web design consultant and owner of Top Left Design, will explain why every business should have a website and how to make yours the powerhouse of your business.
Mark Robinson of translation company Alexika Ltd will demonstrate how and where marketing fits in for small businesses.
Anna Simpkins, Head of Marketing and PR for Applied Language Solutions, will share her long-standing expertise of successful marketing strategies across different industries to offer an overview of the picture from the perspective of a global player.
Heidi Kerschl (MITI) will assess the benefits of different strategies and offer her top tips for professional translators and interpreters.
All speakers will be available throughout the day to explore your queries in question and answer sessions or on an informal basis.
York’s National Railway Museum is only a few minutes’ walk from the railway station. At this central York venue, ITI’s one-day event will also leave you time to explore this world-class museum. All-day intermediate level training seminar

ITI’s Masterclass: Financial Reporting – Standards, Terminology and Style is led by top financial and accounting translators Robin Bonthrone and Deborah Fry from Fry & Bonthrone Partnerschaft. Their seminar is specially designed for translators who already specialize in this field and who are working into English. Participants should have intermediate knowledge (at least two years’ experience) of the field. This one-day seminar will be delivered in English.
Session 1 – An overview of the International Financial Reporting Standards, including a discussion of recent events and an outlook on future developments, plus a run-down of primary and secondary resources of use to translators.
Session 2 – Key terminology questions associated with into-English translation of financial reports.
Session 3 – The registers and stylistic requirements of into-English texts. Examples (both good and bad) will be provided and, time permitting, terminology and stylistic queries submitted in advance will be addressed.
