ITI South West Regional Group

The South West Regional Group tell us about themselves in this profile.

Tell us about the South West Regional Group

ITI South West primarily covers the Devon and Cornwall area but we also have members living in West Somerset and West Dorset. There are currently about 35 members in the group and we span the full spectrum of career stages, from newcomers to colleagues with thirty plus years' experience.

What is the aim of the group?

We look to provide opportunities for translators and interpreters in the area to meet socially, ask questions in a supportive atmosphere and to share their experiences of a wide range of professional matters.

What sort of events do you organise?

We usually arrange a meal out in January, a walk in May, and a professional-focused meeting in the autumn.  Last October for example, 18 members of the network met in Plymouth for lunch and an interactive session to discuss translation revision. In recent years we have also held sessions on marketing and finding clients, freelance dilemmas and IT tools for translators.

Why should I join?

Join us to get to know other translators and interpreters in the area. In addition to our three main events we publish an annual contact list so members can find and arrange to meet informally with those colleagues living nearest to them - this is invaluable as we cover such a wide geographic area.
