In this panel session freelance copywriter and author Sarah Townsend, discusses the issue with three ITI Fellows. Despite their years of experience, they all still struggle with imposter syndrome from time to time so you'll really be able to relate to the session and come away with practical tips about how to cope with it.

Karen is from Manchester, UK and has a Diploma in French and a PhD in Organic Chemistry (University of Cambridge, UK). She worked in the pharmaceutical industry in Europe, then after relocating in 1999, in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics in the US. She set up her translation practice in 2005 and it took off quickly. Karen credits specialising, responsiveness and networking as the secrets to her success.
Sarah Bawa Mason is a translator, editor and educator, currently working as a Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies at the University of Portsmouth. She was Chair of ITI from 2016 to 2019 and she currently runs the ITI Research Network, concentrating on the building of strategic links between Corporate Education Members and ITI Central, formulating evidence-based approaches to benefit ITI members.
Sarah is an experienced freelance translator, editor and educator who trained as an in-house translator and editor with the InterPress Service in Montevideo in the 1990s, before setting up and running a successful freelance translation and editing business in the UK (2000-present). She has worked for clients such as: UNICEF The Americas and Caribbean Regional Office; Elsevier (on the bilingual medical journal Actas Dermosifiliográficas), and; many private clients, including Zed books and Deuss Music, on a variety of projects and books.
She currently teaches Spanish Specialised Translation, Professional Aspects of Translation and undergraduate translation modules at the University of Portsmouth, and she publishes on the topics of translator training, professional aspects of translation and the potential impact of new technologies on the profession. She is a regular speaker at international translation association and industry events.
Dr. Kirsty Heimerl-Moggan (FITI) is a Manchester-based simultaneous conference, business and legal interpreter (F2F and RSI). Her experience interpreting German, Swiss German and Austrian over the last three decades includes high-level political meetings, industrial interpreting, medical conferences as well as commercial and criminal court cases.
Kirsty is the director/owner of All About Languages, co-founder of InterpMeds and is the author of a range of publications on interpreting.
She is a Senior Lecturer in Conference Interpreting, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and course leader for the MA Conference Interpreting at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK.
