Track 1 - No frontiers: the evolving role of the professional T&I association in Europe

45 mins Key note speaker

I will begin my talk with a brief outline of the objectives and work of the European umbrella organisation, FIT Europe (the Regional Centre Europe of the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs) in what is undoubtedly a relentlessly changing world.

Drawing in part on the most recent European Language Industry Survey (ELIS) and the FIT Europe “COVID-19” snapshot surveys carried out over the past 12 months, I will then present some current trends, challenges and positives in the industry from the perspective not only of the freelance translator but also of other stakeholders in the industry.

In conclusion, I will make some suggestions as to how this constantly evolving and changing landscape might inform the work of professional translator and interpreter associations and their members going forward.

Target audience: T&I association boards/committees and their members.
