Dear ITI member, We hope that you are doing well and that 2025 has got off to a great start. As part of ITI’s ongoing efforts to update and revamp the ethics-based resources available to members (and non-members), we want to build upon ITI’s recent Ethics Coffee House session on ‘Emotional wellbeing for translators’ and develop a new range of resources on wellbeing. (For a summary of the event and a recording of the core talk by JC follow this link and scroll down to the ‘catch up’ section.) We’re now working with ITI to to create a new space on the ITI website, provisionally entitled ‘Wellbeing: What works for you?’, designed to allow us and members to share tips, advice, resources etc. on what has helped them to improve their work-related wellbeing. On the page we'll be offering concrete tips on ways to potentially improve wellbeing or to work on self-care – with the proviso that there are no silver bullets, of course! There will be supporting resources, and a range of video and text-based contributions from ITI members, creating an online community to share useful strategies. This is where you come in! We’re writing today to invite contributions to the page, which we hope to launch in April. Below is a link to a sample video provided by Katerina Perdikaki, which gives you an idea of the format we are looking for. Your videos should be around 30-40 seconds long and please include your name and role (e.g. translator, interpreter, subtitler, etc.) at the start. Once you have recorded your video, submissions can be made via the following link: By submitting your video you are agreeing that it can be published on the ITI website. Rest assured, you can withdraw it at any time and it will be removed from the ITI website, although once published we cannot guarantee that it won't be available elsewhere on the internet. We are also looking for bullet point tips (rather than stories for the moment). If you would like to share some brief tips in text form, you can do so on our Padlet document. We will publish a selection of videos that we feel may be of use to members, and will do our utmost to select a sample that are representative of the diversity of ITI members and the challenges we face. Of course, we also welcome feedback on the idea and the type of resources that you feel would be helpful. Please email Joseph Lambert on [email protected] All best wishes, Beverley Costa, JC Penet, Katerina Perdikaki, and Joseph Lambert |
