BFL Net Spanish Translation Slam
| Join us for the inaugural ITI Beauty, Fashion and Luxury Network translation slam! During this 90-minute session, four specialist translators will go head to head, dissecting two texts, analysing the challenges posed, and comparing the results. Alicia González López and Carolina Casado Parras will tackle an English newspaper article on fashion, while Nicki Bone and Laura Jones will focus on a Spanish text about diamond cuts by Tiffany. Although the texts will be translated into/out of Spanish, the webinar will be in English, so everybody is welcome to attend, regardless of their level of Spanish. The session will be recorded and all ticketholders will receive the recording afterwards. Slammer bios: Alicia translates from English, French and Portuguese into her native Spanish. Although her experience in fashion translations started with content for luxury brands, she’s now focused on sports brands, which involves a nice mix of technical and creative translations. When she’s not working, she likes to relax on the beach, which is only a 20-minute walk from her home in Torremolinos, Málaga. Carolina is an English- and French-into-Spanish translator specialised in the outdoor industry, travel, art & culture, yoga, fitness, food, and skincare. A native of Spain, she's lived in the US, Germany, and the UK, where she's now based. She enjoys a good transcreation challenge as much as climbing mountains, travelling, and offsetting it all with a session on the yoga mat. Nicki translates from French, Spanish, German and Italian into English, specialising in watchmaking & jewellery, automotive and architecture, with a particular focus on the sustainable aspects of these industries. When she’s not at her desk, you’ll find her renovating her house and garden, swimming, singing or baking. Or getting out and about in the beautiful countryside of the South Downs. Laura translates from French and Spanish to English and between English and Welsh, in both directions. Her specialisms include beauty, travel, fashion and lifestyle, although her favourite niches are fragrance and jewellery. When she’s not working, you’ll find her chilling with her rescue greyhound, Robbie, drinking copious amounts of tea and reading a good book. |
