| Turning bread into tea How what we eat and how we eat it shapes language Most of us are fortunate enough to eat and drink on a regular basis, making diet an integral part of our everyday lives and language. In this webinar, we will look at differences in food culture between various countries and consider how they affect our work as language professionals. Starting with a brief presentation drawing on examples from the speaker’s working languages of German and English, the format is designed to be interactive and open to input from speakers of other languages with interesting examples to share. About the speaker Mandy Williams-Wendl spent the first half of her life in the UK, where she graduated from Heriot-Watt University. Now based just outside of Cologne, she has worked as a German/English translator and interpreter since 1995 and has lectured in German-to-English interpreting on and off since 1996. Having been lucky enough to have eaten some form of food practically every day since 1971, she considers herself somewhat of an expert on the matter - as indeed we all are 😉 |
