The Medical & Pharmaceutical Network speaker is Dr Nathan Patrick Burns, PhD, a statistician currently working in the pharmaceutical industry, where he supports statistical analysis and methodology for health-related research. He has six years' experience across academia and industry, with peer-reviewed publications applying statistics to complex real-world data. His work is primarily motivated by the use of statistics to improve outcomes for disadvantaged populations, spanning applications in health, education, and broader social contexts.

Nathan will be giving two lectures: he will aim to demonstrate how a basic understanding of statistical principles can encourage a healthy relationship with the facts and assumptions encountered in daily life and to discuss statistical theory and nomenclature that translators and interpreters may encounter in their work. Various areas of research will be explored, with a particular focus on public and private healthcare. This will be followed, as always, by an interactive translation session that brings together and applies knowledge from the previous sessions.

Refreshments in breaks and lunch included. Evening social an optional extra.
