Author, blogger and literary activist Ann Morgan shares how translators blew open her writing and reading when they came to her aid during her 2012 quest to read a book from every country. Over the years that followed, as that personal project became a lifelong endeavour that continues to see Morgan championing stories underrepresented in the anglophone publishing industry, the insights that came through reading in translation led Morgan to propose a different approach to reading – one that puts not-knowing rather than sense-making centre stage.
In this keynote presentation and Q&A, Morgan discusses the ideas that inspired her incomprehension workshop and latest book, Relearning to Read: Adventures in Not-knowing, and explores how making friends with uncertainty could help us read ourselves and our world better.
