Yorkshire Regional Group - Boost day
Yorkshire Regional Group - Boost day
The event will take the form of a “boost day” on Zoom between 10 am and 1 pm on Saturday 13th March, with four 30-minute sessions on a variety of useful and interesting topics.
On the schedule, we have:
10:00–10:15 Welcome
10:15-10:45 Kerry Gilchrist, YTI Coordinator and Lara Fasoli, former committee member, conference interpreter and translator, compare their impressions of the online and face-to-face versions of “The Write Stuff”. This workshop delivered by prominent literary translator, Ros Schwartz, is specifically aimed at helping translators improve their writing skills.
10:55-11:25 Nico Zanellato, founder and director of Taggernauta Analytics Ltd. Nico will be providing us with a general introduction to Google Analytics. This will be particularly useful to those of you who have your own websites, as the Google tool allows you to track activity on your site, understand what type of people are visiting it, and what they do.
11:35-12:05 Chris Thompson of ThompsonText and YTI committee member will be presenting a talk entitled PPPPPP: Proper Project Planning Prevents Poor Performance. Chris’ presentation will touch on time planning, resource management for projects, milestones, and checklists for the QA and delivery process. He’s also keen to hear about people’s project management anecdotes, success stories and even horror stories, so please feel free to contact him at [email protected].
12:15-12:45 Andrew Leigh of Allegro Legal Translations Ltd with a presentation entitled “DeepL: on trial” in which he will share his experiences of trialling the paid-for version of DeepL, which he has been using for about a year. With machine translation a perennial topic at conferences, talks and webinars, this presentation will provide some useful insights on a field that is relevant to us all.
