We have teamed up with some of the leading organisations in the world of translation and interpreting. Over the course of our 12 Days of Christmas they will be sharing their knowledge and insight on the latest developments facing the profession, and answering your questions.

The pandemic caused a lot of confusion and difficulties in practically every industry—however, it could be argued that the overall trends remained. Eleni Markou was born in Greece. She obtained her BA from the University of Athens, and both her MPhil on “The Development and Regulation of the Greek Pharmaceutical Industry” and PhD on “Television Broadcasting in the Single European Market” were obtained in the UK.
She has been working as a freelance translator and interpreter for over 30 years whilst also teaching Greek as a foreign language in multiple organisations and institutions. In 2000, she started her own business, which has now collaborated with over 150 different clients in both the private and public sector, ranging from SMEs to multinational corporations.
She is a Lecturer in Translation at UCL and is the Lecturer of the Greek undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Interpreting at the University of Surrey. She has served three terms as a Member of the Council of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. Eleni is also cooperating with a number of HE institutions throughout the country as external examiner and linguistic advisor.
Emmanouela Patiniotaki is a graduate of the English Department of the Kapodistrian University of Athens. She holds a MSc in Scientific, Medical and Technical Translation with Translation Technology and a PhD in Audiovisual Translation (Accessibility) from Imperial College London. She has been working as a professional in Translation and Localisation since 2006, in Audiovisual Access Services since 2011. She teaches Translation Technology, Language Automation, Access Services and Audiovisual Translation at University College London and delivers guest lectures in other institutions. As a researcher, she works on the aforementioned fields, focusing on the design of New Means of Access and Universally Accessible Environments, as well as Crisis Translation, and is a member of the Movement of Disabled Artists and the Movement for the Emancipation of Disabled People. Emmanouela has re-designed and co-ordinates the Professional Courses offered by the UCL Centre for Translation Studies.
Ondřej Matuška is a sales manager and a corpus trainer at Lexical Computing, the company behind the Sketch Engine corpus system and the OneClick Terms term extractor. He runs training events for linguists, translators, lexicographers and other language professionals. He also contributes to the development of the user interface and oversees user experience at Sketch Engine.

Simon manages a team of experienced legal advisers in the legal advice department. His main area of expertise is employment law, having worked in this area throughout his career advising both commercial and personal clients.

As a business development representative for DAS Law Simon's responsibility is to maintain and build upon existing relationships with clients and business partners. John Di Rico began translating in 2005 and specializes in financial and marketing translation from French to English. He currently works as the Sales and Marketing Manager for Wordfast and runs a small translation business—ApexTra—in France. He is a member of the French translation professional association (Société Française des Traducteurs) and has an MA in Translation and Localization Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS).
John is a certified trainer for adult education and has been offering professional training for translators since 2006. He has taught more than 500 translators how to use CAT tools, how to manage their time, and how to manage translation projects. John is currently teaching project management for the online Master in Technical Communication and Localization (TCLoc) program at the University of Strasbourg.

Yves Champollion was born 1956 in Paris, France. He is related to the early nineteenth-century French Egyptologist Jean-François Champollion, whose contributions to the translation of Egyptian hieroglyphics were instrumental to the deciphering of the Rosetta Stone.
Yves freelanced as a translator between 1982 and 1995, when he translated and published the French versions of several popular science books that were bestsellers in the US, including Darwin On Trial by P.E. Johnson. From 1996 to 1999, he was a project manager and consultant for large translation projects at world-class translation agencies (Translatel, Linguex…), which led to his involvement in projects for SAP R/3 & R/4, Siemens, Alcatel, Microsoft, IBM, ABB and Ford, to name a few.
Starting in 2000, he developed the Wordfast and PlusTools suite of Computer-Assisted Translation tools, a popular product among translation agencies and freelance translators, with over 55,000 paid licenses in use as of 2019.
Widely travelled, in addition to French, German, English, Latin, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and some Japanese, Yves has also had time to get acquainted with Shangana, a language spoken in Mozambique, where he sponsors a secondary school. Lastly, he is an enthusiastic conference speaker, having delivered countless keynote addresses and lectures throughout his career, and particularly since he launched the Wordfast line of products for the translation industry.
