Medical & Pharmaceutical Network: Sitting is the new smoking

MedNet member Emma Goldsmith will share the results of her 2023 survey on workstation ergonomics and health.

In her survey, Emma asked how the long hours at our computers affect us and what we do to alleviate or prevent musculoskeletal troubles. In her talk, Emma will discuss eye and upper body anatomy and pathology related to prolonged sitting. She will not only disclose the negative effects of sedentary behaviour and its intricate ties to health but also talk about strategies to adjust our current workstations, choose new equipment and prevent and address common problems affecting the upper body and eyes.

Emma Goldsmith trained as a nurse in London and later retrained – informally and formally – as a medical translator in Madrid. Her areas of expertise include clinical trial documentation, cardiology, emergency medicine and nursing. Emma is a Fellow of ITI and currently serves as the chair of MET (Mediterranean Editors and Translators).

This event will be free to MedNet members but registration is required. Emma’s talk will be recorded and subsequently made available to those unable to participate on the day.
