Mrs Viktoriia Bogdanova MITI

On 30 September 2009, while I was in my fifth year at Donetsk National University (Ukraine), I signed my first professional contract. I was hired by Metallurg Donetsk Football Club as the Russian-to-English translator for the club’s official website. Interestingly, International Translation Day is celebrated on 30 September, making it a meaningful coincidence that my professional translation career began on that very day.

I grew up in Starobilsk, a town in the Luhansk region of Ukraine, where I received my primary and secondary education at Starobilsk Gymnasium. In 2005 I moved to Donetsk, Ukraine, after being admitted as a full-time student to the Department of Romance Languages at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Donetsk National University. My major was French Language and Literature, with English as my second foreign language.

In my third year, I enrolled in an additional qualification programme in Translation. I graduated in 2010 with a Master’s degree in French Language and Literature, along with qualifications as a teacher of French and English languages and literatures at the higher education level, and as a translator.

My background and education led me to become a bilingual linguist specialising in translation to and from four languages: Ukrainian (native), Russian (native), English (fluent), and French (fluent).
