Specialist in literary, medical and business translation. My USP is ensuring that translations are accurate and written in fluent, easily comprehensible English: after all, there is no point having something translated if readers are turned away by clunky sentences, odd syntax and inappropriate terminology.
I have translated both fiction and non-fiction works that have been published by major UK publishers. My most frequent work domains are clinical trial documentation, pharmacology, back translation of research questionnaires, medical case studies, music, tourism and travel. I have translated online content for two major airlines, numerous global pharmaceutical companies and several Turkish companies selling household goods to the international market. I also have experience at subtitling and providing certified translations of official documents.
I am happy to embrace technical developments in the field and keen to learn about the latest developments. Keeping my technical skills up to date is a priority and I do this on a regular basis by attending training sessions for CAT programmes and other relevant software, such as research tools. I make good use of training sessions held by the ITI and other organisations like MemoQ. I use various software tools for researching topics (Intelliweb, Seekfast, Google custom search) and have built glossaries in my main subject areas. I am familiar with QA processes in Trados and MemoQ and use TransTools to clean up documents in Word.
It can be hard to keep second language skills up to date when we are no longer living in the country; to counter this, I have monthly advanced Turkish mentoring sessions with native Turkish speakers. I also try to spend at least 3 months of every year working from Turkey. It really helps me to keep up with cultural and linguistic developments, as well as catch up with clients old and new.
