CPD comes in many different forms. Below are just a few examples of the types of CPD that ITI recommends. At ITI we differentiate between formal and informal CPD. Read more about the differences below.

Formal
  • Courses and conferences organised by ITI, its Networks or Regional Groups
  • On-line tutorials, webinars and e-learning, such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)
  • Conferences, lectures, webinars or workshops organised by other professional bodies, in your area of specialisation, e.g. medical, legal, or technical
  • Courses organised by universities, including distance-learning courses
Informal
  • In-house training for staff translators
  • Visits to specialist libraries, technical installations or client premises
  • Reading specialist publications, learned journals and other literature in your specialist subject(s)
  • Research work, e.g. MA thesis
  • Preparing and delivering lectures, presentations, seminars or workshops
  • Writing articles, dictionary or website reviews
  • Listening to radio, podcasts, watching TV/films in your source language
  • Mentoring
Getting Involved
  • Committee work in ITI or other professional bodies
  • Outreach work (e.g. talking to schools about careers in languages etc.)
