Celebrating International Translation Day 2022

Join ITI as we work towards a World without Barriers.

Each year translators and interpreters celebrate International Translation Day on 30 September, the feast of St. Jerome. This year the theme for the day is A World without Barriers: The Role of Language Professionals in Building Culture, Understanding and lasting Peace.

Every day ITI members strive to remove language as a barrier to communication and to build bridges between nations, governments and communities. The role of translators and interpreters in the world is vital. They help to spread ideas, connect the global economy, allow people to have access to international knowledge, support multiculturalism and promote cultural awareness.

To mark International Translation Day 2022 ITI members have been telling us about what makes the profession so exciting, challenging and rewarding, and how the ITI Community supports them.

Although launched back in the 1950s, it was only in 2017 that the UN adopted resolution 71/288 on the role of language professionals in connecting nations and fostering peace, understanding and development, and declared 30 September as International Translation Day.
