ITI joins trade associations at parliamentary reception

On 20 January, Dean Evans, ITI Board member, attended the Trade Association Forum (TAF) parliamentary reception at the House of Commons on behalf of ITI.

The event, held in the Terrace Pavilion at the Houses of Parliament and sponsored by Nucleus Technologies, brought together leaders from across the UK's trade association community, alongside parliamentarians, policymakers and other stakeholders, to recognise the vital role of trade associations in building industry consensus, driving up standards, and promoting enterprise and innovation across the UK economy.

TAF represents over 300 trade associations across the UK, advocating for the sector and providing support to help associations thrive and serve their members effectively.

With representatives attending from sectors ranging from gift cards and vouchers to publishing and tyre distribution, the reception provided valuable opportunities to discuss ITI's work and learn how other associations are addressing common challenges facing membership organisations.

Dean said, "A common theme throughout the event – in the speeches and in conversations – was the power of collaboration. Edward Morello, the Liberal Democrat MP for West Dorset, and Chris Bryant, Trade Secretary, both emphasised how trade associations speaking with one strong voice helps guide government policymaking. TAF CEO Emily Wallace echoed this sentiment when she announced a new partnership between TAF and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI)."

ITI recognises the power of collaboration too. We're working with organisations including the Association of Translation Companies and the Chartered Institute of Linguists to raise the profile of translators and interpreters with government and the wider public. This includes joint advocacy on critical issues such as language provision in UK universities.

The reception underscored the importance of trade associations working together to amplify professional voices. ITI recently joined forces with fellow Memcom members to address the government about supporting professional standards and collaboration.

As Dean noted, "When professional bodies speak with one voice, we can make a real difference to the sectors we represent and the people who work in them."
