Guided tour of historic London pubs – The Holy and Not-So-Holy Clerkenwell
(Meet at Farringdon Station – Open Foyer)

Our well-known and respected guide, Roger Bone, will be taking us on a circular tour of several historic and architecturally notable pubs in Clerkenwell, an area with a turbulent history of religious and political radicalism, including the Marx Memorial Library and its association with Lenin and the Russian Revolution.
From Farringdon Station, Roger will take us to The Castle (close to the station), The Holy Tavern (formerly The Jerusalem Tavern), the Crown Tavern with its 1683 conspirators’ clock and The Betsy Trotwood (David Copperfield, Dickens).

Stories include the rise of watch and clock making, the first beer brewed with hops in England, the famous St John’s Gateway, Victorian alfresco loos and the Clerkenwell House of Correction.

We will end at The Betsy Trotwood where we can also have supper; the pub is close to Farringdon Station.
