Francesca Matteoda FITI

Francesca Matteoda is a French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish into English translator specialising in the medical and pharmaceutical fields. After a 3-year stint working in-house, she set up as a freelance translator in 2000. She is a former member of the ITI Board, Chair of the Fellowship Committee and Mentoring Coordinator for the Spanish Network. She has been mentoring translators since 2016 and won the ITI Mentor of the Year award in 2020. She is also a qualified hatha yoga teacher and regularly hosts office yoga sessions at translation conferences.

David Beattie MITI

David Beattie, a founder member of ITI, is a retired German to English translator specialising in medicine and pharmaceuticals. He also holds advanced accreditation from the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA). From 1973 he was a staff translator and latterly medical writer with Hoechst UK Ltd (eventually Sanofi-Aventis) before turning freelance in 2000, since when he has translated 13 medical textbooks and edited 100+ articles published in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is a long-serving committee member of ITI’s Medical & Pharmaceutical Network whose Newsletter he has edited for the past 15 years and whose original translation workshop concept he formulated some 35 years ago. In 2019 he was the inaugural winner of ITI’s ‘Mentor of the Year’ award.

Andrew Godfrey MITI

Dr. Andrew Godfrey MITI is the coordinator of the ITI German Network. He has been working as a translator and proofreader/editor since 2008, specialising in academic writing and texts on cultural and political topics.

Gillian Shaw MITI

Before retraining as a translator, I worked as a Knowledge Management Consultant for an international IT company. Part of my role was to provide mentoring programmes for the technologist community as well as implementing knowledge-sharing processes for both the internal workforce and our customers. This has led me to be an advocate of knowledge sharing and community building as part of developing a stronger profession now that I am a translator – hence taking up the role of Coordinator for the ITI Italian Network.

I have been a freelance translator for over 5 years. I work from French and Italian into English with specialisms in the areas of Sport, Travel & Tourism and Wine – and any overlap between these. My preferred text would be a marketing blog/article on any of these subject areas but I do also enjoy translating social media copy and business documents.
