This year’s theme is: Translating Peace and Truth in Times of Global Crisis

Last year, we discussed Translating Resistance and Truth in Times of Global Crisis. Together, we reflected on the role of translators and interpreters in resisting oppression and carrying silenced voices across borders.

One year later, the crises have only intensified: wars and genocides silence communities, millions are displaced, the climate emergency worsens, and AI-driven exploitation reshapes translation and language work.

In this world of overlapping crises, we ask: How can translators and interpreters act as lifelines of communication and co-architects of more peaceful futures?

🎤 Speakers

  • Prof Dr A. Turgay Kurultay (BILARK Cooperative)
Translators and Interpreters at the Edge: Translating Peace and Truth in Times of Disasters and Crises → A pioneer of disaster and community interpreting in Turkey, co-founder of Afette Rehber Çevirmenlik (Emergency and Disaster Interpreters).
  • Dr Joss Moorkens (Dublin City University & ADAPT Centre)
Teaching and Ethics in the Age of AI and Translation Technology → A leading scholar on AI, ethics, and translator precarity, exploring how technology can erode or strengthen human agency.
  • Nancy Piñeiro, MA (SUNY Binghamton / Territorio de Ideas Collective)
Translating from Below and Within: (Re)production of Knowledge for Socio-Environmental Justice  → Translator and researcher from Argentina, linking translation to ecological resistance and anti-extractivist struggles in Latin America.

💡 Whether you are a translator, interpreter, scholar, activist, or ally, we warmly invite you to join us for this gathering. Together, we will reflect, exchange, and imagine how translation can be both a witness to human suffering and a practice of peace, dignity, and hope.

✨ Without translation, both words and worlds fall silent. Let’s build bridges of peace, truth, and solidarity.

We look forward to seeing you there!
