Poem and song translation explores how meaning, rhythm, and emotion move between languages. It calls for a careful balance between fidelity to the original and creativity in the target language, as translators work through differences in sound, structure, and culture.

Join us for this engaging challenge at the Joint Translation Workshop hosted by YTI with ITI North-East in York.

As in previous years, participants will begin with a two-week online preparation period via Slack before meeting in person in York. Further details, including room information, will be shared with attendees.

Dates:

Monday, 17th November: preparation phase starts at 7:30pm on Zoom with a short talk by Antonella Gramola-Sands, Editor of literary texts and poetry. Participants will be sent the Zoom link after registration, along with a link to the Slack workspace where they will be able to work in groups on either texts provided by us or texts of their own choice in language groups.

Saturday, 29th November: event in York from 1pm with an introduction recorded for us by Lucia Morciano, Translator, Proofreader, Subtitler, Writer plus time for the language groups to get together in person to discuss their translations and feed back to the wider group on the challenges and solutions they found.
