A freelance translator in patents and patent litigation. An enjoyable challenge of the job is to work closely with patent attorneys to ensure that terms and phraseology are as close as possible to what they would write themselves.

Frequent speaker at ITI conferences, with a focus on how to deliver excellent customer service. Fellow of ITI since 2006.

Translator since 1982; Managing Director of Eiger Translations, a niche translation company specialising in patents and other intellectual property, from 1989 to 2000, including designing and delivering training in patent translation for employees and freelance suppliers. From 2006 to 2013, established teams of freelance translators for large-scale specialist projects with batched delivery. The emphasis was on attention to detail and strict observance of deadlines.

Degree in German and French from Oxford 1982; MA in German from Dalhousie University in Canada 1985.
