Ethical practice

ITI seeks to develop and promote ethical practices among all those working within the profession.

We launched an initiative to consider the potential to create an ethical framework for ITI members in the autumn of 2024. Our first event was an open discussion meeting hosted by Dr Joseph Lambert which helped us to identify the range of topic areas that we want to explore in more detail. Over the following 12 months we invited a range of experts and other stakeholders to host a series of open discussions on these topics, with the aim of generating the core principles that will form our ethical framework.

ITI Coffee House - an online space for conversations about ethics

We called this space for conversations about ethics the ITI Coffee House following the spirit of the coffee houses of the eighteenth century where the Enlightenment was born. The aim was for conversations to be informal and free-flowing and for participants to contribute rather than just to listen.

In November 2025 Sara Robertson and Dr Joseph Lambert gave a presentation summarising progress and outlining some of the initial conclusions. This was followed by a thoughtful open discussion about the potential next steps. Members can read the summary below.
