Mrs Rebecca Nicholls MITI
My specialism is audiovisual, publishing and cultural translation, but I translate everything from certified official documents to documentary scripts, books and pitch decks.
I spent over a decade in international film and television acquisitions and distribution before I qualified as a translator. I worked in France, the UK and Australia, and have extensive commercial experience with US broadcasters and platforms. I was also an Executive Producer on a Netflix UK documentary and supported development on dozens of documentaries. My background gives me a first-hand understanding of rights, pitching and how English-language audiences respond to creative and commercial content. I've translated and adapted more than 50 documentaries for English-language broadcast, alongside books, pitch decks and marketing materials for publishers, production companies and cultural organisations.
I aim to be easy to work with: responsive, cheerful and conscientious, whether the project is a birth certificate needed by tomorrow or a literary translation working in consultation with the author. As a writer myself (YA fantasy) I value the trust that authors place in me, and enjoy recreating their unique voice in English. I stay calm under deadline pressure without cutting corners. I always flag anything ambiguous in the source, and often spot errors or offer extra research along the way.
