Episode 2: Transferable skills, specialisms and setting goals

Tiffany Williams, MA in Translation student interviews Gillian Shaw, MITI and freelance translator of French and Italian into English about her experience of becoming a translator. 

In the latest of our short, informal conversations between ITI members, Tiffany and Gill discuss a wide range of topics, ranging from career changes, transferable skills, choosing your specialisms, how to establish short- and long-term business goals and perhaps most importantly, wine tasting and chocolate courses!

The conversation includes lots of useful hints and tips and the chance to hear experiences and advice from an established translator, and all in under ten minutes!

Tiffany Williams graduated in 2021 with an MA in Translation (French to English) from the University of Birmingham, and recently completed the ITI’s Starting Up as a Freelance Translator course. In 2022 she is still finding creative, and perhaps more restful ways to develop her language and creative skills in her spare time. She is based in Oxford and works as a project coordinator for an LSP.
