Following the fantastic success of the Russian Network’s in-person event in London last month, the Network is pleased to announce that its free online conversation meet-ups are back!
RussNet would like to invite all members and anyone else who is interested to the last conversation session before a summer break and the September Book Club.
And it’s the first opportunity for those who have just joined the Network to get a taste of RussNet’s vibrant, welcoming online events – and to keep your Russian language alive!
Please join the Network’s regular host, Natalia Karlina, on Friday 25 July at 4 PM, to celebrate the legacy of the great Vladimir Vysotsky.
“My songs are not just songs – they are my soul’s cry.”
Vysotsky was more than a musician. He was the voice of a generation, and his legacy is still alive today. His songs carry the weight of truth, rebellion, and humanity.
You will have a chance to
• listen to Vysotsky’s most iconic songs
• read his profound lyrics and poems: if you already know his work, please bring along your favourite!
• discuss his impact on Soviet culture and beyond
• watch clips of his interviews and dramatic roles
Conversation will be entirely in Russian, so it would be great if you can speak Russian to a relatively good level. However, the atmosphere will be relaxed, so speakers of any level are welcome: this is a space to encourage people to speak and overcome the fear…
If you are interested, please email Natalia so that she can send you some material in advance, to help you prepare for the event: Vysotsky’s biography, playlists and links to poetry and films!
Then you’ll receive a reminder and the joining link a couple of days before the event.
This engaging, fun session will offer a great opportunity to practice your Russian, celebrate Vysotsky’s life, music, poetry and enduring influence, and learn more about the part he still plays in today’s cultural scene.
