West Midlands Group: AGM and creative writing

This year's AGM for the West Midlands Group will include a workshop from a guest speaker: translator and writer Ros Mendy.

Ros was one of the founding members of ITI WMG. As a translator, Ros has worked both in-house (Shell, FT.com and Computec Media UK) and as a freelance translator specialising in marketing and PR, environment and horticulture and international development. A number of her translations have been published in bilingual German to English children's books from Schlauberger Verlag. She also writes as Ros Woolner, publishing poems and short stories in a number of poetry journals, magazines and anthologies, with her first poetry collection, On the Wing, being published by Offa's Press in 2018.

Ros has kindly agreed to a re-run of her very successful workshop that was held for the ITI MAT (Media, Arts and Tourism) network last year. Her workshop focuses on creative writing as she explores her journey into writing, especially her poetry. She will share valuable tips on how to get started and discusses strategies when faced with a blank page (working from nothing being unusual for a translator). She will show how this stumbling block can become a launch pad for creativity by addressing a number of key questions, including where her ideas come from and also identifying our secret weapons as translators.

If you are travelling from further afield, note there is also a coworking session at the same venue from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. ahead of the afternoon meeting.

Please don't bring food and drink onto site. The venue does not permit this but it is located conveniently close to local supermarkets and restaurants.
