Mrs Shelley Upton MITI

As a qualified professional translator, I help French businesses attract and cater to English-speaking clients. My translation speciality is education, coaching and leadership development, but I am also highly experienced in the fields of interior design, fashion, and tourism.

Taking early retirement from my university career, I followed my heart and became a translator. Now I have achieved qualified MITI status and have translated over four million words during the six years since I took my first steps in the translation world.

I have a lifetime's experience covering education, pedagogy and leadership development; IT, digital matters and telecommunications; tourism and travel; fashion and luxury items; interior design and antiques.

Let's take a closer look:
I was a hotelier and restaurateur for twenty years.
My fashion and luxury experience comes from over twenty years of hands-on work with fashion and interior designers.
My family has run an antique business for over thirty years giving me extensive experience in interior design and antiques.
Courtesy of my BSc.Hons in computer science I managed a university IT help desk then developed my knowledge of education, learning and teaching while taking responsibility for online learning there for fifteen years.
Latterly in my university career, I branched into leadership development, qualifying at postgraduate level and specialising in coaching senior leaders in higher education.

My process:
I read your text and prepare a draft translation, checking terminology and asking for clarification if necessary. Then I refine the draft.
Next comes spelling/grammar checking, followed by bilingual review to check I haven't missed anything or added anything unnecessary.
Then my computer reads my translation aloud; I check that it 'sounds' right and will suit your audience.
Then I go away and do something completely different to clear my head.
Finally comes one final proofread, tweaking and perfecting.
And that's it!
And it's also why machine translation alone simply isn't good enough!!
