Dean Evans (MITI) is an English translator and editor based in Tunbridge Wells. Working from German, Spanish and French, he specialises in patents, with a particular focus on patent litigation and mechanical and electrical engineering. He is the new Coordinator of the ITI French Network and has been a member of the Professional Development Committee since July 2019.
Hayley is a freelance French and Spanish into English translator and charity communications professional. She one day hopes to enter the world of theatre translation but, for now, is specialising in the translation of charity communications and healthcare texts. She joined the ITI board in 2020.
After graduating in German and Russian, Kari started her translation career translating in-house at Voest-Alpine in Austria for five years. After moving out of translation for several years, during which time she lived and worked in the Netherlands and South Africa (with Siemens), she turned freelance after the birth of her daughter and now has over 30 years’ experience as a freelance translator from Dutch, German and Afrikaans to English. Kari’s specialist field is horticulture, agriculture and food. Alongside her translation work she is Chair of the ITI Professional Development Committee and gives frequent talks, workshops and webinars on a range of translation-related subjects, including at the ITI and OU SWATI events, the London Language Show and various universities. She has also taught German to English translation on the University of Westminster MA in Translation Studies.
Maha El-Metwally is a conference interpreter for the languages: Arabic (A), English (B), French and Dutch (C). She works for a wide range of international organizations, including the European Institutions and the United Nations. She is a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL) and the American Translators Association (ATA). She is also a Board member and member of the Membership Committee of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) where she was recently made fellow.
Maha has an MA in interpreter training from the University of Geneva. She is associated with a number of universities both in the UK and abroad where she contributes to the curriculum. She is passionate about technology in the field of interpreting and offers courses on the subject internationally.
