Inspiring and supporting the next generation
FIT Europe has created a series of guides to inform and inspire a career in translation or interpreting.
Our profession is going through a period of change and it is now more important than ever that young people understand the opportunities that a career in translation or interpreting can offer. The International Federation of Translators (FIT) Europe has created a series of guides to help educate, inspire and prepare the next generation of translators and interpreters.
The three guides contain the same key information but present it from different perspectives for the benefit of either teenagers, teachers or parents. Alongside her friends, family, teachers (and dog), the main character Poppy showcases the versatility and global opportunities a career in languages has to offer.
The guides were developed by FIT Europe alongside language industry players EUATC, GALA and LIND, with the support of the European Commission’s DG Translation.
Please download and share the guides with any students interested in the profession, as well as any contacts you may have at schools or with teachers, to help us raise awareness and increase the visibility of our profession.
These materials reflect ideas gathered and discussed at a series of four workshops under the "Translating Europe" umbrella involving FIT Europe, DG Translation, the LIND expert group, EUATC and GALA, the European Masters in Translation Network, the European Parliament, freelance professionals, translation agencies, teachers and representatives of their associations, and parents and representatives of their associations.
