Dean Evans MITI is an English translator based in Tunbridge Wells. Working from German, Spanish and French, he specialises in patents, with a particular focus on mechanical and electrical engineering and patent litigation. He is an ITI board member, the coordinator of the ITI French Network and a member of the Professional Development Committee.

Hayley Smith

Hayley is a freelance French and Spanish into English translator and charity communications professional. She one day hopes to enter the world of theatre translation but, for now, is specialising in the translation of charity communications and healthcare texts. She joined the ITI board in 2020.

Kari Koonin

Kari Koonin has over 35 years’ experience as a freelance Dutch, German and Afrikaans to English translator specialising in horticulture. She has also worked as an in-house translator and ran her own translation agency for a while.

Kari is a Fellow of the ITI and was chair of the ITI Professional Development Committee for many years. She gives frequent talks, workshops and webinars on a range of translation-related subjects. She has also taught on the translation MA course at the University of Westminster. Kari lives in West Sussex, and when she isn’t translating, you’ll either find her in her garden or taking part in wildlife and botany surveys on the South Downs.

Maha El-Metwally

Maha El-Metwally is a conference interpreter for the languages: Arabic (A), English (B), French and Dutch (C). She works for a wide range of international organizations, including the European Institutions and the United Nations. She is a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL) and the American Translators Association (ATA). She is also a Board member and member of the Membership Committee of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) where she was recently made fellow.

​Maha has an MA in interpreter training from the University of Geneva. She is associated with a number of universities both in the UK and abroad where she contributes to the curriculum. She is passionate about technology in the field of interpreting and offers courses on the subject internationally.
