Lloyd Bingham appointed as ITI’s new Chair
The Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) has appointed Lloyd Bingham MITI as Chair of its Board, succeeding Fiona Gray MITI, who has stepped down after 18 months in the role.
Lloyd is a translator, editor and copywriter working from French, German, Dutch and Spanish into English. He has been an ITI member for over 13 years, a Board member for over four years, and most recently served as Vice Chair.
"I'm honoured to take on this role at such an important time for our profession," said Lloyd.
"My focus as Chair is to make sure the Board hears directly from members, and that what we hear shapes what we do."
Priorities for 2026–27
ITI's operational priorities for the year ahead centre on three areas: professional development and standards, policy and advocacy, and supporting ITI's communities.
On professional development, we will implement our new Professional Development Strategy and Framework and establish a new Ethics and Standards Committee. On policy and advocacy, we will continue to raise the profile of the profession, pursue outreach opportunities, and respond to relevant policy developments. And in terms of supporting our communities, we will undertake a full membership survey later in this and also hold our final 40th anniversary event.
Listening to members
Lloyd has recently been leading our Board on Tour programme, taking Board members out to meet members across the UK and beyond. This activity runs alongside our series of Town Hall meetings. Both initiatives are designed to give members a direct way to engage with the Board as we shape ITI’s future priorities.
Lloyd commented that "These conversations are already helping us understand what matters most to our members. I want that to keep growing over the course of my time as Chair."
Marking 40 years
Lloyd's appointment comes as ITI marks 40 years since its founding in 1986. Members and the wider profession are invited to join ITI's 40th anniversary event in London on Saturday 14 November. Details are available in the events calendar.
